My Music/My Videos Wont Work Dammit!

jane @ January 6, 2009

  • hey people, nice forum, i was wondering if you could give me a hand with an annoying problem ive been having with my evox/xbmc dash xbox, im trying to get music and video files to display in my music and my video but the damn things wont show up, i can ftp fine to any folder i want, and i have sent a couple of albums(mp3), but the only way i can play them is to find them in my files, and click on individual tracks which is okay but not ideal. there is no music or video in my music and my video so i cant track down the right folder that way either, any ideas? should i post a copy of my xml? im a total n00b at this so sorry if theres a thread like this in here, i havent seen one.

  • ive already read the manual looking for a solution, the problem is the music i place in the albums folder on the c: drive just doesn't show up, and there are no other albums folders to try, i know i can create a folder on any of the drives with no problems but i wouldnt have a clue what/where to put the instruction in the xml that tells my music to go there, i dont even know if there is a line like that in the xml already and if putting another one in there would mess things up, any ideas?

  • i dont know the answer to either of those questions, i picked the xbox up second hand, could you take a look at my xml and see what the bookmark is by any chance?

there ya go, i deleted some of the music/video extensions to avoid stretching this thread, they're still their in the actual xml of course...

  • honestly, the clues that kraqh3d gave told you exactly what you needed to do.

look in the section of the above. do you see c: mentioned anywhere? no. now look in the

  • if you had read the documentation i pointed you to, and then checked your own config file which you've posted here for all to see, you would've seen that you do not have a matching bookmark for the c:\ drive in music or video. you need to add it. only pictures and files has a bookmark to c:\ drive.
so i am missing something then? could you point out whatever it is please, i really dont have a clue.

  • first off, the simple question -- are you ftp'ing them to a location thats defined as a bookmark in xboxmediacenter.xml? that file tells xbmc where to look for your files.

and if you've recently upgraded, rename myvideos#.db and mymusic#.db (both found in your albums location, which defaults to a subdir off of your xbmc install dir). issues with those databases can render the entire media window useless.

  • look through the manual wiki at http://manual.xboxmediacenter.xml and learn what a bookmark is.

this page in particular would be useful to you:
    http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.p....l&v=7m8 (http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php?wakka=bookmarksxml&v=7m8)

after you've read some material, and still cant figure out the problem, then post another message.

  • ah yes!!

its all clicked into place for me now, i can see ways to solve hundereds of things i was wondering about, thanks a million jmarshall and kraqh3d...

    :fixed:

  • alright, ive searched and i cant find any tag thats missing its corresponding tag, i assume thats what your so-called "clues" were pointing me at and i dont get your "im done with you" comment, an answer would have saved both of us some time, this is a support forum after all.

does anyone else have any ideas, preferably in the form of actual suggestions rather than witty little "clues"? ???

  • no, i'm done with you. i've already given you a clue. a particular page of the manual that would be most useful to you.
