From a Father's Daughter on Father's Day

    I do not tell too many personal things on this site, but today I will.

    I would like to tell my father "Happy Father's Day" even though he has been deceased in this life for 24 years.

    If he was here today, I would thank him for his undying and unconditional love.

    He was a member of the "greatest generation". He served in World War II but rarely talked about it. It changed him forever.

    He married and started a family later in life. He loved his children. We were his life. He was always there for us. He took us for picnics in the park every Saturday. He did our chores if we had to study no matter his work schedule.

    He was understanding. I could always talk to him. He talked to me when I was a teenage girl "about boys". He helped me to decide what to study in college. When he looked at me with his deep blue eyes I knew I was loved no matter my transgressions.

    He was patient. He always helped me recite and memorize my school work for a test or project no matter how many hours required.

    He was devoted. He made my lunch every morning, even when I was in high school. He would drive me to my work or school obligations no matter the inconvenience to him.

    He was kind. I never heard an mean or angry word from his mouth. He never struck or yelled no matter the provocation.

    He was an example of compassion, understanding, kindness, and acceptance. He was the kind of father who only had to frown to draw tears from us. I felt his love for me so greatly that I never wanted to disappoint him. I tried to get the best grades at school. I always tried to excel at any job I had. I always tried to make him proud of me no matter the challenges I had in life.

    His presence was so inspiring I would trade years of my life for just 5 more minutes with him. All 5 of us children feel this way.

    Just 5 more minutes......

    Thanks Dad for everything. Thanks for all the sacrifices. Thanks for showing me what unconditional love is.

    Thanks for believing in me. Thanks for leaving me a better person for knowing you. You are still in my heart.
